In a peer reviewed study developed and led by Dr. Loren Fishman the published results of 741 patients followed over a 10 year period show that regular practice of yoga asanas improves bone mineral density. View the study.

Yoga asanas also improve your balance, posture, strength, range of motion, and coordination, greatly reducing the risk of fracture. 

This workshop will include:

  • Complete instruction and practice of the 12 poses from Dr. Fishman’s yoga for osteoporosis study
  • Instruction in additional yoga asanas for improving overall health and strength
  • All yoga poses will be practiced at 3 levels: using a chair, the wall and free standing
  • How to sequence your asana practice for balance, variety and inspiration
  • Instruction in breathing practices (pranayama) that benefit overall heath
  • Guided relaxation for assimilating the benefits of the poses and reducing stress
  • Time for questions and individual assistance

Take home tools and confidence to continue a safe, effective yoga practice for health and strength.

This workshop is open to yoga students of all levels. It is also helpful to yoga teachers interested in incorporating principles of yoga for osteoporosis into their teaching.  (Note: this is not a yoga teacher training certification course).
