Spend a weekend inside Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras with Carroll Ann (Prashanti) Friedmann, author of Practicing the Yoga Sutras: A Personal Study Guide & Journal. Prashanti trained at the Integral Yoga Academy here at Yogaville, and her book was written as a study companion to Sri Swami Satchidananda’s translation and commentary on the Sutras. The weekend is open to students at every level, from newcomers to longtime teachers who want to take the Sutras off the page and into daily practice.

What We’ll Study

  • The first sixteen sutras of Samadhi Pada, where Patanjali defines Yoga, names the movements of the mind, and gives the twin practices of abhyasa and vairagya (practice and non-attachment)
  • The five kleshas, the afflictions Patanjali identifies as the root of suffering
  • The eight limbs of Yoga, which Patanjali lays out beginning in Sadhana Pada, as a practical path you can walk

Sessions move between chanting the sutras in Sanskrit, talks and group discussion, guided journaling, and time for independent study. Every participant receives a copy of Prashanti’s book to work in during the weekend and take home. You’ll leave with a clear grasp of Patanjali’s core practices, a way to bring them into daily life, and a circle of fellow students.
